Crash Bandicoot | Gaming Throwback

This platformer made a huge splash in the gaming industry selling just under 7 million copies since it was released on the first Playstation back in 1996. It introduced us to one of Playstation’s most iconic mascots: Crash, the no-shirt-just-jeans-and-sneakers bandicoot. He’s out to stop Dr. Neo Cortex’s plans to take over the world by creating an army of mutant animals, but you’re not alone because you have Aku Aku by your side. The core of the game is platforming but it does waay more than just that. Naughty Dog, the game’s developer, wanted to create a Sonic/Mario game but for players to move forward and not just side to side. And because of this, it’s one of the first games that has the camera behind your character which was a risky move. Think about it, game developers thought it was awful for players to have to stare at the rear-end of its main character throughout the whole game. But Naughty Dog went along with the joke and called the early prototypes “Sonic’s Ass Game.” So, in order to avoid that, there’s a heavy variety of different gameplay sprinkled throughout your quest. No player will ever forget the thrill of running TOWARDS the camera while being chased by a giant boulder. Which Crash Bandicoot game is your favorite? Let us know in the comments!
