Spyro the Dragon | Gaming Throwback

It’s time for a throwback at Rated Red Gaming, and today we’re gliding over grassy knolls in Spyro the Dragon.

Developed by Insomniac Games for the Playstation back in 1998, this 3D platformer sold more than 5 million copies, according to vgchartz.com. Terror strikes the Dragon Kingdom after some mouthy dragons called Gnasty Gnorc, the king of gnome orcs, ugly and stupid during a TV interview (We aren’t making this up.) Gamers played as Spyro who uses his abilities to free his elder dragons from their crystal prisons and collect all them gems. He can glide, charge with his horns and shoot fire in a short, shotgun-like spray pattern. Your health is indicated by the color of your dragonfly companion, Sparx. To get him back to golden status, kill some friendly animals and watch that little dude eat butterflies. Did you know Spyro was originally green? During the early builds the team noticed he kinda blended in with the grass so they changed him to purple. Spyro went on to have two more releases for the Playstation with "Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage" and "Spyro: Year of the Dragon." All three are getting remastered for PS4 and Xbox One, with a release date in September.
Were you a fan of Spyro? And what should we throwback to next time? Let us know in the comments!
