The U.S. Marine Corps Is Restructuring Its Ground Combat Forces

These changes are focused on improving lethality and agility on the battlefield and will be felt at almost every level of Marine Corps life.

Some of the new proposals include, decreasing the number of Marines in a rifle squad from 13 to 12. Those squads will now feature, three Marines, all armed with M27 infantry automatic rifles, with suppressors and improved optics. Additionally, two new positions are being created: assistant squad leader and squad systems operator. Plus, should they need more man power, squads will keep an extra slot open for an additional rifleman.
